Communication
is an art through which two or more than two parties convey their messages.
They express their meaning through two important ways called verbal
communication and non-verbal communication.
Both
ways are important because mostly in our life we use the both one. Sometime Nonverbal
communication is more important than verbal communication because it is
most powerful. A nonverbal message have batter energy to convey a message
than a verbal message.
Nonverbal
messages are an important part of the communication process because they
provide added information the receiver can use in interpreting what is said.
The extra information can add to the meaning of a message. Estimates from
authorities in the field indicate that nonverbal message make up as much as 70
to 90 percent of the transfer of meaning and emotion in face to face
interaction.Nonverbal
communication is so important that most people believe “how you say it, more than
what you say, “ if you say “ yeah that is a great idea” in a sarcastic tone of
voice, the person to whom you are talking will probably believe your tone, not
the meaning of your words.
Nonverbal
communication is extremely important in
oral messages or all kinds, more so than verbal communication. It is also
present in written message. Nonverbal communication is even more important in
intercultural communication because of language barriers and differing
background.
Moreover,
nonverbal communication is more reliable and more efficient than verbal
communication. People have generally more faith in nonverbal cause than they do
in verbal messages. If a person says one thing but transmits a conflicting
message non verbally, listeners invariably believe that nonverbal signal. For
example, a manage who frowns while saying “good morning” to a late arriving
subordinate is clearly communicating more than a polite greeting.
The
proverb “actions speak louder than words” was used long before
when there was an abundance of popular books on nonverbal communication. In
fact, most people can deceive others much more easily with words than they can
with theirs bodies. Words are relatively easy to control; body language, facial
expressions, and vocal characteristics are not, by paying attention to these
nonverbal cause you can detect decline and affirm speaker’s honestly.
People
use nonverbal signals to support and clarify verbal communication.
Facial expression, gestures, and posture contribute greatly to the
meaning of the message. When you have a conscious purpose, you can achieve it
more economically with a gesture than you can with words.
Because
much nonverbal communication is unconscious, it is likely to
be sincere. You can improve interpersonal relationship by learning to receive
the unspoken and often unplanned messages of other people and by becoming aware
of your own unspoken language.
