School Principal Job Description - Charter of Duties for School Principal

Role and Responsibilities of School Principal - Headmaster


1. He is Responsible to the Convener/Governing Body (If any) for the efficient functioning of the Schools.

2. Principal is Responsible to appoint/terminate the school staff.

3. School Headmaster is Responsible to appoint all staff of the school following the prescribed procedure mentioned in School Policy.

4. He Co-ordinate with the Vice Principal for smooth management and efficient functioning of School.

5. Principal should Ensure quality education in schools.

6.He Ensure implementation of the policies/directives/orders mentioned in the school policies as well as issued by the Convener, Governing (if any) from time to time in letter and spirit.

7. He Interaction and affiliation with the concerned Board of Education.

8. His Planning and arranging in-service schools and refresh courses for Teachers with approval of Convener / Governing Body (if any)

9. He Provide directions to the Vice Principal on academic as well as administrative matters.
Prepare annual calendar of events for school.

10.He Decide about the schedule of examinations and formulate the policy of setting and evaluating question papers, ensuring complete secrecy.

11. He Evaluate the examination results of schools and decide measures for improvements.

12. He Counter checking of pupils note books, diaries, worksheets etc. spot checking will be carried out.

13. Planning and organization annual sports and cultural/co-curricular activities.

14. He Ensure punctuality of the teaching, non-teaching and administrative staff of the school.

15.Ensure proper maintenance of the school library and purchase of requisite books/magazines etc.

16. Intimate details of examination results/student’s conduct to the parents as and when required.

17. Arrange parent teacher meetings.

18. Carrying out two observations per year of each teacher. Observation reports should be written and kept in the teacher’s personal file.

19. Checking the teacher’s weekly planners as scheduled in order to kept herself/himself aware of what they are teaching.

20. Take an active part in monitoring and guiding teaching staff, encouraging them to participate whole heatedly in the in-service teacher schools programs and to incorporate what they have learnt from these programs into their teaching.

21. Checking of calculation of marks, teacher’s remarks/comments and general neatness of examination reports.

22. To Ensure equal distribution of workload among the staff.

23. To Organize and conduct admission tests for selection of students.

24. To Ensure proper and timely checking of student’s prep work by the teachers.

25. To Control and sanction the leave of all staff.

26. Ensure maintenance of personal files of teachers.

27. Any other duty assigned by the higher management (if any)
